This gorgeous walled courtyard at the end of an existing long garden presented the opportunity to create something magical. The clients wanted a year-round oasis with a hint of Moroccan style. The space receives very little direct sunlight due to large trees in surrounding gardens, and so we embraced this, designing a wonderful calm space with ferns and a shady bower planted with vines and jasmine. A rill and small pool provide the Moroccan flavour they like, whilst using traditional York stone and bricks to blend with the existing garden and surrounding building. Bands of decorative laser-cut metal are run across the garden, under-planted with lush green plants, creating a truly bespoke design. Pleached trees provide a transition from the existing garden into the courtyard.
